5 Vampire Book Series You Should Read

Who doesn’t like vampire stories? They are one of the most popular creatures not only in books, but also on TV shows and in the movies. Ever since the success of the Twilight Series many more vampire series have come into existence and have done really well. Vampire series are further divided into horror, romance, comedy, etc.

Below is a list of 5 Vampire Book Series that will both entertain and scare you:-

1. The Vampire chronicles by Ann Rice

Ages 12 and up

352 pages (1st book)

Louis is disappointed with his life, his brother, whom he really loves, is dead and his life seems to be falling to pieces. One day he meets Lestat who tells him that he can help Louis get rid of all his pain and he converts Louis into a vampire.

Both of them get really close to each other.  But soon Louis starts hating Lestat for all the trouble he causes.  He even decides to leave, but stays back when Lestat converts a 5 year old girl into a vampire. Even though he stays back, his hatred towards Lestat doesn’t go down.

Vampire chronicles by Ann Rice is one of the best vampire series ever. The first book “An interview with a vampire” really grips you and convinces you to read the rest of the series. The book mainly shows the hating and loving relationship between Louis and Lestat and their different ways of life.

It takes you through a journey of sorrow, rejuvenation, love, hatred and companionship. If you are a fan of vampires you should read this series.

2. The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

Ages 12 and up

Bella, a 17 year old girl moves from Phoenix, Arizona where she lives with her mother to Forks, Washington to live with her father. Here she readily makes new friends. But out of all her friends and students in the schools she finds Edward Cullen, a boy who hangs out with an isolated group of friends, really attractive.

Eventually they meet up and they fall in love with each other. Bella later finds out that he’s a vampire, but he preys on animals and not humans. Soon a problem arises when a vampire, James wants to hunt Bella. Edward and his family unite to protect Bella from this vampire.

Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer is one of the most popular vampire book series ever. This book has made vampires evolve from scary murderous beasts into loving romantic creatures. Both vampires and werewolves have been created into interesting creatures in this series. If you like romance novels, vampires and werewolves you should read this book.

3. The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris

Ages 12 and up

Sookie lives in the fictional town Bon Temps, Louisiana with her grandmother Adele. She has the ability to read minds. Sookie starts falling for a vampire Bill Compton who she meets in the restaurant she works in. Soon many people start getting killed in Bon Temps, Bill and Sookie’s brother Jason are the Major suspects.

Jason even gets arrested. So Sookie, goes on a mission with Bill to really dangerous places to prove his innocence and to solve the mystery with her mind reading ability.

The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris is one entertaining adventure filled series. Charlaine Harris does a great job in creating great characters in this series. You will find many creatures such as vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, witches, etc. in this book.

The story and the plot are extremely different from any of the vampire series you will normally read. If you love reading vampire novels and are looking for something unique you should read this book.

4. The Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith

Ages 12 and up

272 pages (1st book)

Elena Gilbert is the most beautiful and the most popular girl in school. A new boy Stefan joins the school. Elena is really attracted toward him, but he doesn’t seem interested. Soon they get together and grow close to each other. In the meantime people in town start getting killed. Everybody begins to suspect Stefan as the deaths coincide with his appearance.

Elena has her own doubts too, so she confronts Stefan, who reveals to her that he’s a vampire. But he’s not responsible for the murders. It’s his evil brother Damon, who loves to create havoc. Damon is attracted towards Elena too. This creates a love triangle which leads to many more problems.

The Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith is a vampire series you shouldn’t give a miss if you like reading vampire stories. The series has everything you need love, fear, revenge and horror. You will love both the old and new books in the series.

5. House of Night by P.C. Cast and Kirstin Cast

Ages 12 and up

320 pages

Zoey Redbird is a 16 year old girl who has been marked, this results in her turning into a fledgling vampyre. Now that she’s a fledgling vampyre she is sent to the House of Night, a school where fledgling vampyres are trained till they become adult vampyres. At the House of Night she meets more vampyre fledglings, with whom she has great adventures.

House of Night by P.C. Cast and Kirstin Cast is a unique vampyre story where vampyres are out in the open and are an accepted part of society. This is a well written series with a very good plot and great characters. This is a series you should read if you like vampyre stories.
