Who doesn’t love dogs? They are some of the friendliest creatures in the world. They are one of the few animals you can get close to. They are the most common favourite pet. They are all over in books, in TV shows, in cartoons and in movies.
One of the best dog stories in the world is the Call of the wild by Jack London. The story revolves around this massive and powerful dog called Buck. He’s a cross a cross between a St. Bernard and a Scottish Shepherd Dog, which gives him his unique and big appearance.
At the beginning of the story, his life is fantastic, he lives in a comfortable house in California, where the weather is pleasant and he’s got good food to eat and a pool to swim in. Then all of a sudden things take an unexpected turn. The gardener’s assistant steals Buck and sells him to pay off his gambling dept.
The hardships…
From there on the hardships of life starts for Buck. First he’s sent to a place where a man breaks him down with a club. After this he’s shipped to Alaska where he’s made to do one of the toughest jobs in the world, pull heavy sleighs in the biting cold. For Buck this was even harder because he was used to the warm and pleasant California weather. But soon he gets used to it and he even starts to enjoy doing some of the work and a great adventure lies ahead of him.
This book is one of the best books I have ever read. The author Jack London is an amazing author. His writing is unique. He describes everything in a beautiful language, which looks and sounds unique, but it’s still easy and fun to read.
If you love dogs and animals and you want to read a book that is different from the playful children’s books, then this is the book you have to read. You learn a lot about the hard life in Alaska during the gold rush and how much harder it was for the dogs.
